The pressure release valve is fixed on one end of the bulb and is connected so that you can pump and operate the valve with the same hand. The valve should be closed when pumping air into the cuff. The release valve is a needle valve. It has a knob attached to it which is screwed on to the housing. There is a small air release hole (vent) in the valve housing that will be closed by the needle when the knob is turned fully clockwise.
